Social Media Roundup – 10/17

By Dominic J. Litten | October 17, 2008

L24 wins again

Eight Fathom employees ordered L24s

Hello Friday, we’ve missed you.  No Pizza Hut field trip this week at Fathom, but Turney China Thursday was a hit for the 36th week in a row.

On to the more interesting links from this week in the social media world…

Facebook announced the top 25 recipients from the first round of the fbFund Developer Competition, a $10M fund that “enabl(es) innovative and engaging application” on the Facebook Platform. WIth the relative downgrade of apps to the back pages in the new Facebook layout, I wonder if application use has decreased?

Yahoo unveiled the first part of the their new Yahoo Open Strategy, which involves a new look for the user profile that allows users to friend other people. At first glance, I like what they are doing, but one wonders how long they’ll keep it a priority with all of the doom and gloom over at Jerry Yang’s place.

Dell partnered with the Facebook crew to launch an initiative called ‘Social Media for Small Business’. The Facebook page provides Dell’s small business customers (and anyone else) with how-to guides on utilizing social media as a way to build brand and ultimately increase sales. My favorite stat from the blog entry: “39 percent of the Inc. 500 are blogging– three times that of the Fortune 500.”

Ten (More) Ways to Change the World Through Social Media – Sustainablog

In honor of Blog Action Day on Wednesday, author Max Gladwell listed 10 ways to “change the world” via blogging and social media.  While none of these ideas are going to do much overnight, there are a few grassroots organizations that you probably haven’t heard about.
