Are Article Submission Sites Really Worth It?
Article submission sites like GoArticles and eZine Articles are everywhere online. Just do a search for “submit articles†and you’ll see what I mean. And although each one of them is different in its own way, all of them argue that publishing an article on their site is a great and easy way to promote your content.
That statement might be just fine for some people, however, from an online marketing perspective, I’m not really buying the “we’re so great†argument and here’s why:
1) There are a ton of article submission sites/directories online, and each has its own unique submission guideline policy. Do you really want to take the time to edit your article 92 different times so that it meets the quality standards of 92 different sites? The time investment can be too much.
2) If you have quality content, do you really want to submit it to a website that says in its policy that your content can be freely used by the site’s community in any way they desire? Sounds somewhat risky to me.
3) Depending on how many articles you plan on submitting, why not consider using the content in a blog or special articles section on the client’s site? Doing this can increase the size of the website and create potential linkbait. Additionally, by holding on to the content, you have control over other SEO factors like URL optimization, internal linking, etc.
I could go on, but I think you get the point. Bottom line, article submission sites are generally not worth the effort. And while some do offer a little SEO benefit, if you have great content, there are probably better places to consider promoting it first.

Like legit newsletters and magazines in a related field…those would be better…
Not to mention the possibility that the content you created and published at one of these sites may be re-used without credit. This is against the article submission sites’ terms of service…but in the real cyber-world it happens.
Way to tell it like it is, Matt. Too many of these sites with non-sourced articles look like rip-offs of legitimate publishers. Let’s call them what they are: vehicles for AdSense.
You can always use an article submission service that will help submit to those 92 article directories without having to re-format the article each time.
At the moment I’m submitting articles through EzineArticles which has a policy that you must include the complete article including author resource box if you want to use the content yourself.
In reality though, I’m sure this doesn’t happen all the time.
If the article submission is not good then why you have wasted your time to do so ??
Yes, Article Submission are worth.
It can help to generate leads as well as generate referral traffic.
I prefer article submission for SEO Campaign.
I think you meant to talk about “article directories” rather than article submission sites. Only the top ten article directories are worth the time for submission. But other article submission sites like article newsgroups, blogs, niche directories and individual topic sites are worth the time. Most of my clients spend no money on advertising because they get all their traffic from targeted submissions that I do for them.
