It’s Official: Google Will Be Entering The Cell Phone Market.

November 5, 2007 after months of rumors, Google finally announces that it will be entering the mobile market (Associated Press: Google developing cell phone software). They will be providing cellular phones with free software to help push ads and services to consumers who are not using their personal computers.
The cool thing? Google is leaving the software open source. They’re hoping by doing so it will prompt programmers to enhance the software for a better user experience.
Google’s system will also be based on computer code that can be openly distributed among programmers. That, Google hopes, will encourage developers to create new applications and other software improvements that could spawn new uses for smart phones. - Associated Press: Google developing cell phone software
Google plans on launching their software in the second half of 2008. Sprint Nextel Corp. and Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile will be the wireless carriers.
