Search Industry Has Enormous Growth

The North America search marketing industry grew 72% from $5.7 billion to $9.4 billion, according to a new survey by the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization.

Much of the growth went to paid search - $4.7 billion to $8 billion. But natural search engine optimization (SEO) saw a surge as well, growing from $642 million to nearly $1.1 billion.
The survey indicated that the vast majority of companies handle paid search and SEO on their own, but it didn’t dig deep into what success they’re having or obstacles they face.
